When my team of fugitive hunters gets the call that a dangerous suspect is loose in the city, we have to drop everything and utilize any resource possible to put an end to the running. We had a particularly challenging case here, as the suspect was connected very well and his inner circle would do anything to keep him from being taken back to jail. Even the informants would not talk for fear of this suspect and his crew retaliating against them instead.
We did not have the luxury of being able to try and do surveillance on the suspect because each day that passed put an entire community at risk. My team was given the go-ahead to locate and take down the suspect any way possible before he caused anyone harm. Without any new leads, without any help from informants, and without any help from past associates, we really had our hands tied with this case.
Although I knew the inmates at the local jail were very familiar with our suspect, I knew they would not openly talk to the authorities when asked for help. There would be no cutting of deals because these inmates were not willing to help, so we decided it was time to force their hands.
When I learned Securus Technologies installed the inmate monitoring system in this prison, I found my answer. The inmates already knew we were nosing around and why, it was time to listen to what they were saying to their family and friends on the phone. Didn’t take but an hour for one inmate to tell his brother to warn a certain family they were going to under the spotlight soon. That is exactly what we did, and we stormed that residence so fast that the suspect was still in his underwear as we dragged him to the street.
